The oldest citing of a ‘Cinderella’ fairy-tale story is thought to be that of Rhodopis, which was about a Greek slave girl who marries the king of Egypt. The origins of what we know as Cinderella, comes from an Italian folk tale in 1634, called "Cenerentola" which is an Italian name for (ash). It has to do with the fact that servants and scullions were usually soiled with ash, because of their cleaning work and also trying to warm themselves by sitting close to the fireplace.

Over time, the word "Cinderella" has come to be associated with one whose attributes were unrecognized, or one who unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect. It is also thought to be about development and the transition to adulthood. Treasured by children and adults across the global, merchandise of the icon Princess is a welcome addition in every household, available to stock now from supplier Baby Brands Direct.
