It’s hard to believe that 2016 marked the historic 90th Birthday of Winnie the Pooh, a much loved and cherished character in the hearts of kids and adults alike. It was in fact on October 14th 1926 that the publication of that first book, Winnie-the-Pooh took place and has since been celebrated with an honorary star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The author, A. A. Milne’s inspiration for the tales came from her Son, Christopher Robin, and his stuffed toys and adventures. Winnie the Pooh was the name of Christopher Robin Milne’s real teddy bear who was named after a bear called Winnie at London Zoo and of a swan called Pooh who he encountered, so it became the name of the bear in the books as well.
This is an exciting year for the licence with a movie scheduled for the tail end of the year called Disney’s Christopher Robin. The story written by Jon Meyer is of an adult Christopher Robin, who is now busy with work and family, and encounters his old friend Winnie the Pooh, who returns him to his childhood spirit of the loving and playful boy. It is a live action heart-warming adventure where the pair return to the Hundred Acre Wood and help find Pooh’s lost friends.
As with other licenced movies we expect that sales of the plush line of characters will experience a significant uplift in sales so be ready! Baby Brands Direct will be adding the official plush Christopher Robin movie lines, manufactured by Posh Paws International to its wholesale portfolio as soon as they are released in the UK.
