World renowned for its die-cast toy cars by Mattel, this brand is a new wholesale offering at Baby Brands Direct. Many automobile manufacturers including Lamborghini have licensed Hot Wheels to make scale models of their cars. Also available are limited edition cars from prevailing licences including Batman and Justice League. Originally a brand for kids they have become increasingly popular with adult collectors. Each Hot Wheels car has a date on its base which is a design copyright date, not a manufacturing date.
After the brand’s launch in 1968, success increased with each year’s new models. Sales topped 16 million in the first year and have hardly slowed since. Mattel has manufactured upwards of three billion cars, with more than 800 models and 11,000 variations of Hot Wheels cars. Mattel is reported to have said that approximately eight cars are sold every second.
